What it is: A microchip is a tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice, that’s implanted under your pet’s skin, usually between the shoulder blades. We use the mini chip implants, which are suitable for both small and large breeds.
How it works: The microchip contains a unique identification number. When a scanner is passed over the area, it reads the number, which can then be used to access your contact information stored in a microchip database.
The procedure: It’s a quick and relatively painless procedure, similar to a vaccination. No anesthesia is required.
Why it matters: If your pet gets lost, a vet, dogs home or qualified implanter can scan them for a microchip. If they find one, they can contact the database and get your details, making it much easier to reunite you with your companion.
